July 30, 2024 Primary Election

Nov. 5, 2024 General Election

The city of Scottsdale will hold a Primary Election on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 for the purpose of electing a Mayor and three Councilmembers. To be elected at the Primary Election, a candidate must receive a majority of all of the legal votes cast for that candidate’s race. A General Election shall be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024 to elect any office that remains unfilled after the Primary Election. The City Council also referred two items to the November ballot for Scottsdale voters to consider - a city proposal to replace and reduce an expiring sales tax, and an adjustment to the city's state-imposed spending limitation.


Voting Locations

IN-PERSON VOTING

In-person voting will be held at various locations throughout Maricopa County. You can request a replacement ballot, vote in person, or drop off your voted early ballot at the following Scottsdale locations:

For Wednesday, July 3rd, only certain voting locations will be open. All voting locations will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, starting at 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. You can vote at any location.

BALLOT DROP BOXES ONLY

You can drop off your voted mail ballot at the following locations:

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting Wednesday, July 3, 2024 through Monday, July 29, 2024 and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

VOTING ASSISTANCE

You may request a Braille or large print ballot by calling 602-506-1511. Voters who need assistance due to a confining illness or disability may request Special Election Board assistance by calling 602-506-1511 or emailing by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024. Please provide your full name, residence address, contact information, and date of birth for verification purposes. Accessible voting devices are available at all voting locations, as well as curbside voting for voters who are unable to leave their vehicle due to physical limitations.

Information Pamphlet

A Candidate Information Pamphlet (PDF) will be mailed to all registered voter households approximately thirty days prior to each election. English and Spanish versions of the pamphlets will be available online (scottsdale.vote and scottsdale.voto) and at the following Scottsdale locations beginning Wednesday, July 3, 2024, for the Primary Election, and Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, for the General Election:

Running for Mayor or Council

Thank you for your interest in becoming a candidate in the 2024 Scottsdale Mayor and City Council Election. This information is an important first step in the election process and has been prepared to provide you with information and candidate requirements for the 2024 Mayor and City Council Election.

While every effort was made to provide a comprehensive overview of the election process for the City of Scottsdale, this candidate information and the noted resources are provided with the understanding that City Clerk staff cannot provide legal or financial advice. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that all legal requirements have been met.

Please note that the Scottsdale City Clerk serves as the filing officer for all Scottsdale election forms. All forms must be filed with the Scottsdale City Clerk’s Office by the noted deadlines. Candidates are encouraged to refer to the Arizona State Constitution, the Arizona Revised Statutes, the Scottsdale City Charter, and Scottsdale City Code for legal requirements pertaining to candidates for Scottsdale elective office.

Before filing any forms, you are highly encouraged to meet with City Clerk staff to review the candidate packet (PDF). Candidate Information

Eligibility

To be eligible to serve on the Scottsdale City Council you must:

  • Be a qualified elector of the City
  • Be a resident of the City or an annexed area for one year preceding to the date of election, and
  • Hold no other elected public office or be a City employee

The following nomination procedures must be performed.

Candidate Statement of Interest

Before collecting any signatures on Nomination Petitions, the Candidate Statement of Interest (PDF) must be filed with the City Clerk's Office.

Nomination Petition Signature Requirements

At least 1,000 and not more than 13,903 signatures of qualified registered voters of the City of Scottsdale is required. Signatures can be gathered using hard copy petitions or online using the E-Qual system.

Nomination Petition Filing Period

The nomination petition filing period begins 8 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, and ends at 5 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024. The following paperwork must be filed during the nomination filing period:
